Once upon a time there was a monkey. He was living on a tree that was on the bank of the river. There were thousand’s of rose apples on the tree. One day a hungry crocodile came crying out of the river. The monkey asked to the crocodile “why are you crying?” The crocodile replied “I am very hungry”. The monkey said “I can give you food” and the crocodile thanked the monkey and plucked some apples and gave it to crocodile. The crocodile loved the apples and the crocodile and monkey good friends. One day the crocodile’s wife said the crocodile to visit the monkey to his home, than we eat his heart of the monkey. The crocodile went to the monkey and said to visit our house and told the monkey that his wife has made his favourate food. The monkey and the crocodile went to the crocodile’s house. In the middle of the river the crocodile said the true .And the monkey said” oh I have kept my heart on the tree the crocodile went to the tree and monkey climbed on the tree and didn’t jump said “I think you thought a lesson.

It was the first time I experienced such a failure in my life

In the list of top ranker of the class I couldn’t survive

It was just like coming down the stairs which I climbed with so much hard work

I lost it not only with my mistake but also with hard luck

I was unable to complete my paper and did lost so many sums

Just because of slow writing I had limited time in exams

I lost fifteen marks in paper of numbers! I said

Last time in which I scored full marks instead

Of my failure I was so afraid

I shed oceans of tears as I was too upset

I thought what will I tell my parents??

How will I face my teachers??

Suddenly I heard my younger brother saying try try but don’t cry

A light of hope shine upon me

 For my mother told me you have to walk miles

Don’t loose faith so soon

For the dark night there’s still a light of moon

Then I decided to learn from my failure

And let God be my savor

I have got everything in me

1) “A Suitable Boy” is a novel by Vikram Seth, published in 1993.

2) “A suitable boy” is one of the longest novels published in a single volume having 1488 pages.

Tiger and Villagers

A long time ago somewhere in India - Ancient Bharat, in the vicinity of a dense forest, there was a village. Relation between the villagers and the wildlife of the forest was very good.

One day a tiger cub was found by some children of that village and then brought to the village. The tiger cub was alone, so villagers decided to keep it with other farm animals. They named the cub Sheru. Sheru was growing day by day like other farm animals. Sheru liked to play pranks with villagers. All villagers were aware that Sheru is not harmful to them, but they all got fed up with his pranks. So they all decided to catch him and sell him.

So one day they all gathered with nets and ropes. Sheru was unaware of this plan. All the young villagers were on a mission to catch Sheru. He used to observe villagers from an old large banyan tree. After some time some women were going to the riverside, and at that time he heard a low growl and a very fierce-looking tiger leaped up into the tree alongside him and said, "I am hungry. These old people look skinny, but the children would be tasty."

Sheru was horrified by the other tiger. Sheru thought calmly for a while and said, "Wait for some time, young villagers will come back, and you will have a tasty hunt." The other tiger replied, "Ok, not a bad idea. I will wait for young villagers."

After some time women were back from the riverside and the fierce tiger was ready to leap on one of them to hunt. Suddenly Sheru said, "Wait, these women are not yummy and tasty, you must try the young men of this village."

The other tiger replied, "Ok! I will wait for plumper young men."

It was the time of sunset and the fierce tiger's tummy was rumbling. There was nothing to stop him. Sheru heard the sounds of men returning. the other tiger was very hungry, so he didn't noticed the nets and ropes with the young villagers. He leaped out of the tree. 

At first site, one of the villagers shouted, "We are not afraid of you, Sheru!" and they threw net on the fierce tiger and bundled him up and tied his paws together with the rope. One of the villagers yelled, "You are now in our control and we will sell you for good price."

Haring this Sheru realised that the villagers were planning of catching him. He felt sad and started crying. Sheru was a kind tiger and he never wanted to harm anybody. Sheru was ready to off to forest again and he came out of the banyan tree.

Villagers were confused as they caught the fierce tiger who was a man-eater and Sheru was free. Then they realised that the Sheru had saved the village from the man-eating fierce tiger. 

All villagers realised their mistake and came to know that Sheru is kind, fun-loving tiger and they all lived happily with Sheru. Thus Man and wild relations of that village again revived.

A courageous woman is complete on her own

This is a short incident from the life of Gautam Buddha. After reading about this incident I found the true essence of feminism. This is what is rooted in the culture of India. Though this is from Buddha's life, this is the experience of many women in India who believed in their selves and lived life happily, and fulfilled their responsibilities. 

When we hear the story of Gautam Buddha, one always wonders about his wife Yashodhara, and son Rahul whom he left behind. In the views of present-era feminists, it is nothing but the patriarchy of the ancient society of India.

Gautam left Yashodhara in the middle of the night, the night their son Rahul was born. When Yashodhara heard this news she was devastated, felt lonely, and was in a condition of mental distress. 

Although in eyes of modern people her life had lost all meaning, in eyes of the present-era feminists it is nothing but the patriarchy of ancient society, but she found a way to and reason to live her life. It is parenting her only son Rahul at the start and fulfilling the responsibilities of motherhood. But as time passes life shows a way to live it creatively. She never ever complained about the behaviour of Gautam - her husband. 

Rather than complaining, she accepted the situation as it is and focused on her son Rahul She wanted him to grow up to be a man that the world would look up to, and this is what she achieved. True feminism is not about complaining about the behaviour of males, but it is about fulfilling responsibilities and living life happily. Many widows fulfilled this and focused on their children or worked hard for the society or nation e.g. Rani Laxmi Bai.

Many of her relatives and friends, tried to convince Yashodhara to remarry as she was young and beautiful. But she opted for the option of focusing on her son Rahul and lived in Kapilwastu with her in-laws. As she dedicated herself for fulfilling her motherhood responsibilities, her in-laws supported her throughout the time.

Years passed Then one fine day, Gautam, after attaining liberation came back!

Now Buddha stood in front of Yashodhara and she could hardly remember him as the man who had left her. "People call you the Buddha now?" she asked.

Buddha replied, "Yes, I heard that, they call me so."

Yashodhara asked curiously, "What does it mean?"

Buddha replied, "What I experienced is enlightenment and I think Buddha means a complete knower."

She smiled and then said, "O Buddha, I suppose we have both learned something in this time. Your lessons will make the world richer in spirit, but my lesson will, unfortunately, remain largely unknown."

Buddha asked in curiosity, "And what is your lesson?"

Her eyes sparkled with unshed tears, and she replied, "That a courageous woman does not need anyone to complete her. SHE IS COMPLETE IN HER OWN WAY. 

Saluting womanhood for the Yashodhara's spirit! From this incident and many incidences in the history of India, I just conclude that people of Indian society believed that the woman is courageous enough and she can stand strong in every situation. The women of India still believed that true feminism is not to blame the irresponsible behaviour of others and to focus on their own goals and responsibilities as Yashodhara did throughout her whole life.

Puran poli

 Jay Annapurna Maa friends! Here is recipe of mouthwatering puran poli for you. It is Maharashtrian dish and usually made on festivals like Pola, Gauri Ganpati, Holi, Gudi Padwa, etc.

Ingredients

For puran:

3 cups Chickpea lentil (chana dal),

3 cups jaggery - either crushed or grated. (You can use sugar but jaggery is healthy option)

1 tsn cardamom powder 

1 tsn saunf powder

¼ nutmeg (jaayfal) - use grater of smallest holes to use it.

1 cup milk

For Dough:

2 cups flour,  

Water as required, 

Pinch of salt.

Oil - 1 tsn

Method:

Dough:

In a bowl or in deep platter (paraat) take the flour, add pinch of salt in it and and knead well to make a stiff dough. Then pour 1 tsn oil on it and spread this oil around the dough. Cover it and keep aside for 2 hours. 

Puran

In a pressure cooker pot take the chickpea and wash it well 2 to 3 times. Then add atleast 6 to 7 cups of water to it and cook it in cooker. Let it cook till soothing smell of the cooked lentils come. 

After pressure cooking let the lentils cool down itself. After cooling strain out the excess water. In a mixer grinder pot take these lentils and grind to a fine paste. Add grated jaggary while grinding.

Add the paste to the pan and add ghee in it and cook this paste till a fine yellowish golden colour comes. The paste should to cooked till it becomes thick enough to make a ball. If the paste is dry and still there is no golden colour then ad some milk in it. 

Now let this cool down for some time. Add cardamom powder, saunf powder and grated jaayfal in it and mix well and again let it cool to room temperature.

Puran poli

Now take a the dough and mince it to a smooth consistency.

Take a piece of dough roll it with rolling pin (Belan) to make a chapati of it. Then keep the puran ball of size of lemon on it and stuff it in the chapati and seal it by removing excess dough. Make a dough ball stuffed with puran in this way.

Now roll this dough ball with light pressure on rolling pin and your raw puran poli is ready.

Put this rolled poli on griddle (tawa) and heat it till it turns somewhat creamish brown. Apply ghee on one side and heat it from that side. Then apply ghee on other side and heat it.

Serve hot in the plate full of curry, kadhi, salad and chutany along with onion pakodi. Also serve ghee on it or milk in a bowl with poli.

Health aspect:

If puran is made using jaggary then it is healthy in its own way. But if you are using sugar then it is high in calories. 

It is rich in carbohydrates and potassium.

Phool gobhi matar masala

 Jay Annapurna Maa! Tasty curry in the feast changes everything. For a party of 15-20 people here is simple curry recipe you must try.

Ingredients

1 kg cauliflower cut in small florets, 250 gram peas fresh or frozen, 6 tbsp plain cashew nuts, 3 tsp cumin seeds, 250 gram tomatoes finely chopped, 1 ½ tsp chilli powder, 1 ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp salt, 2 tbsp oil.

For masala

15 peppercorn, 2 inch broken cinnamon, 10 cloves, 1 tbsp coriander seeds, 150 gram finely chopped onions, 300 gram freshly grated coconut, 3 tbsp oil.

Preparations

For making masala

1. Heat oil in a deep frying pan, When hot add peppercorn, cinnamon coriander seeds, cloves and fry for a minute or two. Remove fried whole spices from frying pan and set aside.

2. In the same oil, heated again, fry onion till translucent. Add grated coconut and stir fry till brownish. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.

3. Grind the mixture in grinder, adding little hot water to a coarse paste. Remove masala paste from grinder and set aside.

Method

1. Heat oil in a deep frying pan. When hot add cumin seeds. When splutter, add cauliflower, peas and cashew nuts and stir fry for a few minutes. Add tomatoes, chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt. Stir and mix well. Cover and cook till cauliflower and peas are done.

2. Mix in ground masala paste, re season if required and allow to simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove from fire, serve hot with freshly baked chapatti.

Fruit custard

 Jay Annapurna Maaji! A fruit custard or fruit salad recipe for your party occasion is here. Please try it.

 

Ingredients

Milk 250 ml, 1 tablespoon custard powder, 9.5 scoop sugar free green, and fruits of your choice.

Method

Combine custard powder and 1 tbsp cold milk in a small cup. Stir until smooth. Place custard mixture, sugar free green and remaining milk in a small pan and cook over medium flame. Stir constantly until custard comes to a boil and thickens. Simmer for 1 to 2 minutes. Let it cool down and then Keep the custard in fridge to chill before adding fruits. Chop the fruits, once the custard is chilled add fruits and mix well. Keep it in the fridge and serve chilled in bowls.

Apple coconut burfee

 Ingredients

Coconut 1&1/2 cups, grated, Fresh or frozen, Ghee 3 tbsp, Red apple three headed cups, coarsely grated, 1 cup milk powder, ¼ cup sugar, ½ tsp cardamom powder, 1 pinch saffron (steeped in 1 tbsp warm milk or water), 1 pinch salt, pistachio and almonds 2 tbsp chopped, dried rose petals 1 tbsp.

Method

Grease a metal tray or baking pan with a bit of ghee and set aside. Alternately, you can line the tray with parchment paper. Toast the coconut in a large skillet or sauté pan on medium low heat for a minute. Do not brown, need to bring of the nuttiness of the coconut. Remove to a bowl and set aside. Melt the ghee in the same pan. Add grated apples and cook, stirring often. The fruit will let out some liquid you need to cook till it is fairly dry. Then add the toasted coconut, milk powder, saffron. Mix well and cook until the mixture becomes fairly dry and comes together to form a soft, fudgy mass. This will take another 10 minutes or so. At this point, you will see the ghee separating at the sides. Pour the mixture into the prepared tray and the smooth the top with the spoon. Sprinkle the chopped nuts and rose petals evenly on top and press down slightly with a spoon. Allow it to cool on the room temperature, then cover the tray with cling wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight. Cut the burfi in smooth bars and serve. IF you want to save it can be put in a airtight container in fridge.

Apple Khir

To make 6 potions

Ingredients

1. 1 litre full cream milk

2. 3 tbsp sugar

3. 500 grams peeled, cored and grated apple

3.  ½ tsp powdered seeds of green cardamom

4.  1 tbsp finely chopped almonds

5.  2 tbsp cashew nuts

6. 1 tsp raisins

7. a few drops of rose essence

8.  1 tbsp finely chopped pistachio 

Method

1. Bring milk to boil in a heavy bottomed saucepan. Lower the heat and cook till reduced by half, stirring constantly. Add 2 tablespoons sugar and stir till dissolved.

2. Cook apples and 1 tbsn sugar in a separate saucepan on low heat till sugar is dissolved and apples are soft, but not mushy. Stir in cardamom, and cook for a few minutes.

3. Add cooked mixture to the milk, add simmer for few minutes, stirring all the while. Sprinkle in all the nuts and raisins and stir for a few seconds.

4. Remove from heat, cool add essence and stir well.

5. Pour into a serving bowl, and serve.

Parenting is a tuff challenge in the present era. Here are some parenting tips for you! Study Bridge is not only for students but also for their parents.

1) Let kids learn to wash their plates

A 12 year boy last time shocked his aunt when she asked him to put the plate in the sink by saying 'oh sorry Aunt I did not know this is my duty. My house, either maid or ma takes it.'

2) Every morning, make kids learn to fold their bedsheets and and arrange their pillows and beds

A 15 year old girl who was sent to a residential summer camp was asked by the warden of camp to fold her bedsheets and arrange her pillow and bed. The girl was not knowing how to do this and she was teased by her fellow camp-mates.

3) Let kids learn to eat what is cooked at home instead of what they like to eat.

During the course of MBBS, the boy who topped the entrance became ill, as he was not having habbit of eating everything. Most of the times he used to avoid the food given by hostel and ordered junk food which led to deficiency of many nutrients and made him seriously ill.

4) Let kids gather their friends & go for evening walks, introduce themselves to neighbours.

A 10 year old girl lost her way to home as she didn’t know the landmarks around her home and the girl is still missing.

5) Let kids make lemonade along with their friends after their outdoor play.

All need refreshment after playing. If the boys and girls are allwed to prepare their own lemonade then they will have habbit to prepare their own refreshments or any prescribed juice by doctor. If they are allowed to prepare laonade along with their friends, they will develop a habbit to work in team.

6) Let kids share toys.

If kids are not sharing their stuff since beginning then they will not be able to create a good relationship with each other. Sharing and caring go hand by hand. If they share something valuable they will have habbit to use things others with care.

7) Instead of going to big cinema halls, gather little friends, and watch a kid friendly film or show on TV.

Arrange such show watching with your kids once in a month or on special occssion. Ask your kids to collect all the snacks and colddrinks which are to be taken during watching the film. Arrange the decorum of TV room before and after the show with your kids. Thus they will have habbit to create special moments in their life.

8) Let kids stay with grand parents, uncles and aunts without parents for atleast a week.

This builds their relation with other family members and let them to grow their communication skills with all ages. Let children explore the people in this way and the let them observe the routine of others and implement good things which they marked.

9) Let kids arrange their own stuff and keep their play area and room tidy.

A 7 year old boy was not having habit to arrange his own school bad and keep all the things tidy, he used to loose his notebooks often and it made him rewrite all the classwork and homework again and again and face the fury of teachers frequently for rechecking of the notebooks.

10) Kids can make kitchen utensils out of real clay.

This enbles their creativity and they start to explore the things around them.

11) If they get sick, let them heal without any medicine

Many times the sickness is due to some silly reasons. E.g. not drinking water for long time lead to headache and body temperature. If instead of giving medicins allow your child to do stretching exercise, massaging their own body parts, and drink plentifull of water. Thus they will have habit to do  these things in routine.

12) Let them wake up without alarm, let them go bed after a tiring play.

Unless they are not tired they will not fall asleep. A good sleep leads to a fresh wake-up. If they are listioning to alarms of clock and then waking up then they will not cultivate habbit of lisoning their own body clock.

13) Parents who ever have the options please leave the kids at grand parents place.

Grandparents will take better care than us. This again builds the family foundation strong. Thus kids will come to know the family values.

14) There is definitely life beyond maths, language , science, art, craft, robotics, handwriting, Olympiads etc

Let them read books on variety of subjects as per their age groups.
